About botulinum toxin and fillers

In these toggles, we’ve provided some general information about the procedure. For specific information about how we can help you, contact us for a consultation.

The skin of your face is attached to the thin facial muscles which you use every time we smile, frown or express emotion. As you age, this repeated facial movement leads to the development of prominent lines or wrinkles on your forehead, around your eyes and mouth.

Neurotoxin injections, BOTOX/ DYSPORT, act at the site of injection to paralyse the muscles, relaxing the overlying skin and smoothing out the wrinkles.

Over months, the nerves supplying the muscles grow back, and the effect of these injections wear off, hence the need to repeat injections.

The sooner you start having this treatment, the fewer wrinkles you will have as you age. The more regularly you have this treatment, the less frequently you will need it in the long run.

BOTOX injections can also help with other conditions, such as:

  • Excessive sweating, usually under the arms.
  • Bulky cheek due to overactive Masseter
  • Some headaches and facial pain, particularly if due to tight muscles.

Volume loss is one of the prime causes for an aged appearance. Fillers provide a quick solution with immediate effect. However, it is important to remember that the common fillers are effective only for mild volume loss. For anything more, we would recommend having implants.

How does botox work?

I inject BOTOX with tiny and fine needles which are virtually pain-free. The main areas of injections for cosmetic purposes are:

  • Frown lines between your eyebrows
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet around your eyes
  • Lip wrinkles

Botox injection takes effect by the third day, maximises by three weeks and starts to wear off after three months. Immediately following the injection, you will get a skin wheal lasting around half an hour. You may also have a bruise that can take a few days to clear.

How do fillers work?

Nowadays, there are many different fillers on the market. However, the most popular (Juvederm, Restylane) have hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring chemical within our cells. It does not cause allergy and is a non-animal product.

A significant reassurance is that if for any reason you do not like the fuller look after injection, we can reverse it by injecting another natural chemical. I do not use permanent fillers such as silicone. Implants are a better choice for this purpose.

The charge for HA fillers is dependent on the number of syringes required. The number of syringes depends on the area that we are injecting and your specific requirements.

After treatment, You must avoid excessive movement of the injected area and apply ice packs.

Filler injections can hurt. Therefore, for most areas, I use a local anaesthetic to eliminate any discomfort. Theoretically, we can treat any wrinkle or fold on your face with fillers. However, the common areas treated with fillers are:

The Lips

Fillers can enhance the outline and/or increase the volume of the lips to improve the definition and make them look plumper. You are likely to require one syringe for the outline of the lips and one for volume replacement.

Fillers can also be used to mitigate the vertical wrinkles (lipstick lines) though usually this is combined with BOTOX for minor wrinkles or with deep dermabrasion for deeper ones.

Nasolabial fold

The line running from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth can deepen with time. We can soften this with filler injections. Typically you will require between 2-4 syringes for adequate effect.

Injection Rhinoplasty

Fillers can be an excellent substitute to smoothen out minor nasal defects, i.e. depression, asymmetries or to make the nasal hump less visible.

Fillers are reabsorbed into the skin and therefore require repeat injections for maintenance. Fillers placed in an area of frequent motion (e.g. lips) will not last as long as fillers placed in less mobile areas.

  • Bruising
  • Some pain and discomfort
  • Risk of skin necrosis if injected into a blood vessel
  • No treatment
  • Fat Injection
  • Implants: Silicone custom made implants for lips, cheeks, chin and temple region

Hear what our patients have to say

Our reputation rests on the experience of our patients

“Mr. Supriya operated on my daughter Mia earlier this year carrying out a septoplasty and surgery to both turbinates. I am a nurse myself and have worked for many years in the operating theatre and cosmetic industry so I am used to dealing with surgeons. Mr Supriya is an amazing person, not only a very competent surgeon but a very kind caring man who put himself out completely to help and accommodate Mia for her surgery. For the first time in 12 years Mia can breath properly so to say we are grateful is an understatement.”

S.A., Septoplasty

“I was there for my medical examination. From setting up appointments, registration, consultation and check up process, all staff and Mrinal himself were exceptional. I would highly recommend the clinic and I am very happy with the results of my treatment.”

M. R., Deep Plane Facelift

“I have received only what I can describe as world class treatment from Mr Supriya. His care & professionalism has been a comfort for me from day one.”

A. C., Rhinoplasty

“Dr Supriya was very friendly, professional, and put me at ease straight away. He spent time talking to me about specifically what I wanted and gave me his honest advice. Consultations were always very positive, and I didn’t feel nervous for my surgery.”

K. T., Facelift

“The result from my surgery was fantastic – it was exactly what I wanted. I had an open septorhinoplasty, and as soon as I came out of surgery I could breath much better than before. To my surprise, I didn’t experience any noticeable facial bruising or swelling at any point in my recovery.”

G. E., Septorhinoplasty

“The results were so natural-looking that no one at work could tell I had anything done! I am delighted with my experience overall, and would certainly recommend Dr Supriya to anyone interested in cosmetic surgery, particularly rhinoplasty.”

G. v.H., Rhinoplasty

“My experience has been amazing from the first consultation till the surgery and even after the surgery. The support and care given by Steve (Patient Coordinator) and my surgeon Dr Mrinal Supriya has been amazing and comforting. I am very pleased with the results so far and I couldn’t be happier.”
