Who benefits from a Deep Plane Facelift?

If you want longer-lasting and more natural looking results – a Deep Plane Facelift might be right for you
You feel like your insides don’t match your outsides

You feel youthful on the inside. Lately, you feel a little surprised when you catch sight of yourself in the mirror. How you look just doesn’t match up with how you feel. You want these two states to match up more closely.

If you feel like you could use more definition and tighter skin along your jaw line

As we age, the skin of our face can start to sag and drag our faces down. The dreaded double chin can form. You would like to restore some of what experts call the “triangle of youth” by firming up the skin and contours of your chin.

You would like to lift up facial sagging however want a very natural looking end result

You’re keen to lift up the areas of your face that have started to sag but you’ve seen people with unnatural, almost windswept looks. That’s not what you’re after. You want to restore your natural beauty in a way that has people asking you if you’ve just come back from a spa or had a very restorative night’s sleep. You want to look rested, rejuvenated and youthful.

Feel comfortable in your own skin

Reveal the real you with a Deep Plane Facelift

You have jowls, tired eyes and a sagging neck

Gone are the days where you could jump out of bed fresh faced and ready to take on the day.

As we age, gravity and laxity of our facial tissues leads to the drooping of skin and deeper tissues in the face and neck area. But it doesn’t have to be that way. A fresh and youthful you is waiting to be revealed.

You’re driving through life with your hand brake on

Physical appearance is a significant factor in self-esteem; the way you think and feel about yourself as a person can have a colossal impact on your confidence and general mood. You’ve become withdrawn, introverted and have lost your true sense of self. Nobody is born with limitless self-confidence, but it is possible to feel natural, elegant and attractive in your own skin.

Your face does not reflect how you feel on the inside

It’s embarrassing looking tired at work, and social events aren’t so fun when your confidence and self-esteem are lacking. You’ve neglected yourself and feel inadequate compared to all the beautiful people around you. You deserve some self-love.

Hear what our patients have to say

Our reputation rests on the experience of our patients

“Mr. Supriya operated on my daughter Mia earlier this year carrying out a septoplasty and surgery to both turbinates. I am a nurse myself and have worked for many years in the operating theatre and cosmetic industry so I am used to dealing with surgeons. Mr Supriya is an amazing person, not only a very competent surgeon but a very kind caring man who put himself out completely to help and accommodate Mia for her surgery. For the first time in 12 years Mia can breath properly so to say we are grateful is an understatement.”

S.A., Septoplasty

“I was there for my medical examination. From setting up appointments, registration, consultation and check up process, all staff and Mrinal himself were exceptional. I would highly recommend the clinic and I am very happy with the results of my treatment.”

M. R., Deep Plane Facelift

“I have received only what I can describe as world class treatment from Mr Supriya. His care & professionalism has been a comfort for me from day one.”

A. C., Rhinoplasty

“Dr Supriya was very friendly, professional, and put me at ease straight away. He spent time talking to me about specifically what I wanted and gave me his honest advice. Consultations were always very positive, and I didn’t feel nervous for my surgery.”

K. T., Facelift

“The result from my surgery was fantastic – it was exactly what I wanted. I had an open septorhinoplasty, and as soon as I came out of surgery I could breath much better than before. To my surprise, I didn’t experience any noticeable facial bruising or swelling at any point in my recovery.”

G. E., Septorhinoplasty

“The results were so natural-looking that no one at work could tell I had anything done! I am delighted with my experience overall, and would certainly recommend Dr Supriya to anyone interested in cosmetic surgery, particularly rhinoplasty.”

G. v.H., Rhinoplasty

“My experience has been amazing from the first consultation till the surgery and even after the surgery. The support and care given by Steve (Patient Coordinator) and my surgeon Dr Mrinal Supriya has been amazing and comforting. I am very pleased with the results so far and I couldn’t be happier.”

Supplementary information about Deep Plane Facelift

In these toggles, we’ve provided some general information about the procedure. For specific information about how we can help you, contact us for a consultation.

As we age, gravity and laxity of our facial tissues leads to the drooping of skin and deeper tissues in the face and neck area.

Face lift is a surgical procedure designed to remove the excess lax skin and tighten the underlying tissues to give a younger, firmer appearance to the face and neck.

Facelifts have evolved over time and you will come across a variety of procedures all grouped under the term “facelift”. However, the gold standard is a Deep Plane Facelift.

Let’s talk about the different varieties of facelifts:

Comprehensive Deep Plane Facelift

The deep plane technique is a full-face lift that works to lift the sagging lower face and upper neck in its entirety. The skin and muscle are lifted together as one unit which repositions all deep facial muscles. This is usually done by a “hidden” cut that runs from the front of your ear around to the back and then ends within your hair at the back. The incisions are well hidden and are not apparent after a few weeks (please look at the pictures).

Even though the results of the Deep Plane Facelift are more rejuvenating and longer lasting by 10 years, on average, than any other facelift technique, the majority of surgeons do not offer this treatment. They often perform a more superficial lift above the muscles in the name of a comprehensive face lift. This has a short lasting effect as the superficial surgery fails to address the sagging foundation of the face. This also leads to a tighter, unnatural feel as all the stretch is directed to the skin rather than the deeper layers of tissue.

The Deep Plane Facelift is performed by less than 5% of surgeons because it is a technically more difficult procedure and requires  intense training and excellent surgical skills.

Recovery

Given the extent of surgery involved in the deep plane technique, you do need to schedule 2-3 weeks for recovery. You will likely experience minor self-resolving inconveniences such as temporary numbness, bruising, swelling and you will have to take good care of the wound.

However, the investment you put in during the recovery is truly worth it as there is no other procedure that can give you a comparable outcome.

The Deep Plane Facelift is my preferred technique for everyone except for those with mild ageing of neck or midface.

The SMAS lift or ‘weekend facelift’

The weekend facelift is a minimal facelift that elevates a limited part of the face by tightening the skin above the facial muscles.

The biggest attraction is the fast recovery. Because this procedure requires limited tissue manipulation, patients can usually recover over a weekend, hence the name.

The downside is that the stress is mostly on skin which can lead to an unnaturally tight appearance. Inevitably, the lift lasts for a much shorter period, just over a year or so.

Thread face lift

This procedure works extremely well and is an excellent choice if you have very little ageing changes. The procedure itself takes just under an hour and is minor enough to be done under local anaesthesia. The effects last just over a year.

This technique is not suitable if you have significant ageing changes.

Advantages of Deep Plane Facelift

  • Natural appearance
  • Longest lasting results
  • Less bruising
  • Minimal pain or discomfort

Disadvantages of Deep Plane Facelift

  • Limited surgeons offering true deep plane lift
  • More costly
  • General anaesthetic risks
  • Temporary nerve weakness in 1-2%
  • No procedure as facelift is a lifestyle surgery
  • SMAS lift/ mini face lift

A Deep Plane facelift is the ultimate facial procedure, which, when done correctly, has an unparalleled effect in giving a younger, rejuvenated look.

Compare with other treatments

While the best way to find out the most appropriate procedure or procedures for you is to discuss your concerns with an experienced, qualified facial cosmetic surgeon, it may help to associate each facial procedure with a certain area of ageing:

Deep Plane Facelift

The Deep Plane facelift differs from a traditional facelift in that the surgeon operates on the supportive layer of the face. This layer is below the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) layer, where most facelifts target.

With a SMAS facelift, patients’ results don’t last as long because of the tightly pulled skin that gives the patient an ‘operated’ look. Instead, by operating under the SMAS layer, patients get longer lasting change.

Mrinal Supriya studied under world-famous face surgeon Andrew Jacono to go beyond this technique in what is known as the ‘minimal access deep plane’ (MADE) vertical vector facelift.

By combining the features of a Deep Plane facelift and those of the short-scar minimal access cranial suspension lift, Mr Supriya can reposition excess soft tissue to the back portion of the jaw to restore the contour and volume that creates the arc of a youthful feminine jawline.

This type of facelift is performed by less than 5% of surgeons because it is a technically more difficult procedure even though the results are more rejuvenating and longer lasting by 10 years, on average.

SMAS Facelift

In traditional face-lifting, the surgeon lifts the skin but not the underlying SMAS. This can create an unnaturally tight stretched appearance to the patient’s face.
In the Deep Plane technique, Mr Supriya lifts the skin and muscle (SMAS) together as one. He then repositions all deep facial musculature.
