 Face & Neck Liposuction

London | Northampton | Milton Keynes

  • With ageing we tend to accumulate excessive fat under our skin and/or displacement of normal fat from their usual position which adversely affects our overall appearance. Jowl and excess fat under the jaw and neck can lead to loss of a sharp jaw line, a very common feature associated with ageing. Conversely in some individuals, there can be loss of fat volume from key facial areas (e.g. cheek, around the eye) which leads to a “sunken” unhealthy appearance. Liposculpture aims to address these problems by removing excess fat (Liposuction) and filling in fat (Autologous fat implant) where required to give your face a pleasing proportionate youthful dimension.

However, if you have excessive fat in the neck with excess loose skin, liposuction would not be appropriate. Simply removing the fat without skin would cause excess the skin to hang leading to “turkey –neck” deformity. A comprehensive face lift may be the correct treatment.

A word about sharp well defined jaw line – In addition to skin and underlying fat, the position of small bones in your neck, particularly your hyoid bone; plays a key role in defining the neck contour.

  • Liposculpture / Liposuction can be done as part of other procedure i.e. Face Lift.

However, in most cases with limited excess fat deposition under the chin or jaw, it can be done as a short quick procedure under Local Anaesthesia – “weekend liposuction”. This involves numbing the skin and the underlying tissue with injections prior to making tiny 3-5 mm cut under your jaw and/or your ears. The fat is then removed from under your skin with suction via special needles (3 -6mm cannula). Once required amount of fat has been removed, the incision is usually small enough to be closed off with paper dressing without stitches. You should apply ice pack to minimise swelling and may need supportive dressing for a day or two.

If required, fat can be injected at the same time. The usual areas requiring fat injections are the cheeks, eyelids and smile lines running from the side of the nose to mouth.

Fat is an alternate choice to fillers and can be used for “plumping” the lips.
