There are a few things you need to be aware of when preparing for an Otoplasty procedure. Although the full list of instructions can vary slightly from surgeon to surgeon, there are several points that are common amongst most of them.

Aspirin – Do not take aspirin or any drug that can lead to an increase in bleeding for a minimum of 2 (two) weeks before your surgery. If in doubt, you can always contact the office.

Food or Drink – Do not eat or drink anything 8 (eight) hours before your surgery if you are having general anaesthesia. If you are cleared to take medication (example: for heart, blood pressure, etc), you can still take them as prescribed using small sips of water to help swallow them.

Skin Products – DO NOT wear any skin care products or apply make-up, lipstick, eyeliner, hair products or fragrances from the neck up.

Jewellery & Hair – Remove all jewellery and leave it at home on the morning of your surgery. If you have long hair, you should wear it tied back and bring some additional hair clips on the day.

Loose Clothing – Sweats or PJs is an ideal clothing choice. Avoid pull over tops if you can.

Transport Home – You need to have someone with you on the day to take you home after surgery, and to stay with you for a short time after. The length of time you need a caretaker is very individual, but the recommendation is at least the first 24-48 hours.
