Questions About Rhinoplasty

At British Face Clinic we get many questions about rhinoplasty from patients considering the surgery. We very much advocate being fully informed of what to expect before and after the procedure before you choose to go ahead.

To help, we have put together some of our most frequently asked questions about rhinoplasty below.

If your question hasn’t been answered, email us at me@britishfaceclinic.com, and we’ll get back to you with an answer.

What is the cost of rhinoplasty?

At British Face Clinic, our rhinoplasty surgery costs from £7,500. An exact quote is given after your consultation. Most patients at our clinic have an Open Rhinoplasty and choose all or a combination of; a reduction of the hump on the bridge, shortening the nose, reducing the tip and/or making the nose slimmer. This surgery would cost £8,500 in London and £7,650 in Milton Keynes.

How long does the procedure take?

Most rhinoplasties take around 2 hours in surgery. This may be less if only the hump is being removed or longer if more complex changes are needed.

How long do the results of Rhinoplasty last?

Rhinoplasty is a permanent change, and your nose cannot be returned to its original form after. Secondary rhinoplasty is possible to make additional alterations, but we recommend patients always only to aim to have one rhinoplasty as this is where you will get the best results.

How long is the recovery? Will I need to take time off work?

A splint is worn for 10- 14 days following your surgery. This is a small plaster cast over the bridge of the nose to control swelling and the shape of your nose in the first weeks of healing. Patients are surprised that there is minimal pain after surgery and it can be controlled with over-the-counter painkillers. Most patients return to work after the splint is removed, but you will be well enough to work after the first week if your job is desk-based.

How do I know if I need an open or closed rhinoplasty?

The type of rhinoplasty you will have will depend on your goals. You can have a closed rhinoplasty if you require just a hump removal. Mr Supriya will take an open approach if more detailed changes are needed. With an open rhinoplasty, there will be a small scar between the nostrils after surgery. This is very thin, fine line that sits at the crease of your nose, so is not noticeable.

I have medical insurance will it cover the cost of rhinoplasty?

You will need to check with your private medical insurer to see if your insurance will cover your rhinoplasty. Most patients self-pay for their procedure. Often, septoplasty (correcting a deviated septum to improve breathing) is covered by medical insurance, and patients can pay an additional fee for cosmetic changes at the same time.

How long do I stay in the hospital if I have a nose job?

At British Face Clinic our rhinoplasty surgeries are daycases meaning you can go home the same day. We do require someone to collect you from the hospital and stay with you for 24 hours. This is standard procedure for any patient undergoing a general anaesthetic.

When can I start exercising after a rhinoplasty?

Light exercise can be resumed after a couple of weeks. You can resume normal exercise after 6 weeks. We recommend waiting longer for contact sports as the risk of hitting the nose whilst it is still healing will be greater.

Can I wear glasses after a rhinoplasty?

Glasses can be worn after 4 weeks. If you rely on glasses, having contact lenses organised before your procedure is good.

When can I fly after a rhinoplasty surgery?

We recommend that patients only fly two weeks after surgery.
