Refine the Appearance of Your Nose
with Expert Alar Base Reduction Surgery
Do you feel that your nostrils are too wide or disproportionate to the rest of your face? The size and shape of the nostrils play a key role in overall facial harmony. At British Face Clinic, we offer alar base reduction surgery, a precise cosmetic procedure that aims to refine the width of the nose by carefully reshaping the nostrils for a more balanced appearance.
What is Alar Base Reduction Surgery?
Alar base reduction (alarplasty) is a surgical procedure designed to adjust the size of the nostrils by removing a small amount of tissue from the alar base, where the nostrils meet the cheeks. This targeted nostril reduction procedure helps create a more proportionate appearance of the nose, particularly for individuals who feel their nostrils are too wide or flared.
The procedure can be performed on its own or as part of rhinoplasty surgery for more comprehensive nasal refinement. Whether you are looking to subtly reshape your nostrils or achieve a more balanced facial structure, alar base reduction surgery can be tailored to your needs.

Understanding Alar Base Reduction Surgery
at British Face Clinic
Consultation
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation at British Face Clinic. During this session, we assess the size of the nostrils, discuss your desired outcome and ensure that alarplasty or alar base reduction is the right option for you.
Procedure
Alar base reduction is typically performed under local anaesthetic, ensuring patient comfort while avoiding the need for general anaesthesia. The nostril reduction procedure involves making precise incisions at the base of the nostrils to carefully remove small amounts of tissue. The incisions are discreetly placed within the natural contours of the nose to reduce visibility.
Once the adjustments are made, the incisions are carefully closed and the shape of the nostrils is refined to balance your facial features. The entire procedure is completed in a short time, making it a convenient option for those seeking nasal refinement.
Recovery
Following nostril surgery, mild swelling and bruising are common but will subside as the body’s natural healing process takes effect. Most patients return to normal activities within 2 days after the surgery, with full results becoming more apparent as healing progresses.
To support your recovery, our expert post-operative nursing team provides comprehensive aftercare instructions. Patients are advised to avoid exposing the surgical site to direct sunlight during the healing phase to prevent pigmentation changes.
Results
Once fully healed, alar reduction surgery enhances the appearance of the nose, creating a more refined and balanced nasal contour. The results are permanent, allowing patients to enjoy long-term facial harmony without the need for further treatments.
Consultation
We provide an initial phone consultation with our expert team free of charge. If you choose to proceed, a comprehensive consultation with Mr Supriya, either in person or online, is available at ÂŁ100, deductible from your surgical fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does alar base reduction differ from rhinoplasty surgery?
Alar base reduction surgery specifically targets the size of the nostrils, while rhinoplasty surgery reshapes the entire nose, including the bridge and tip. Some patients combine both procedures for a more comprehensive result.
Will I have visible scars after nostril reduction surgery?
The incisions are placed within the natural creases of the nose, making scars discreet. Over time, they fade as part of the body’s natural healing process.
Can I undergo alarplasty or alar base reduction if I’ve had previous surgical procedures?
Yes, but your surgeon will assess your medical history and any prior nasal surgeries to determine the best approach for your nostril surgery.
How soon can I go outside after surgery?
You should avoid exposing the surgical site to direct sunlight for several weeks. Wearing sunscreen and protective measures will help prevent pigmentation changes.
Will I need follow-up care after alar reduction surgery?
Yes, our expert postoperative support team provides personalised aftercare to ensure a smooth recovery. Follow-up appointments will monitor your healing progress.
How long does swelling last after the nostril reduction procedure?
Swelling typically reduces within weeks after the surgery, with final results becoming more visible as healing continues.
