Transcript:
From the moment someone becomes interested in a deep plane facelift to going through the full process and recovery, what does the typical timeline look like?
The first step is to visit our website, where you’ll find helpful questionnaires that allow you to self-assess and see whether you might benefit from surgery. You can also watch recorded webinars that include questions and answers, and even submit your own questions directly.
Once you decide to book an appointment, you can contact our practice manager, who will provide more information and answer initial questions.
During your first consultation with me, we will discuss your main concerns, assess your facial features, and review your general health. I will also show you before-and-after photos from similar cases and provide information leaflets so you can reflect on the discussion and prepare any follow-up questions.
At your second consultation, we will focus on your specific goals, review photos again, and make sure we are both clear on what can be achieved safely and realistically. You will then have additional time to think everything through before confirming your surgery date.
Surgery can take place in either London or Northampton. On the day, you’ll meet the theatre team and the anaesthetist, all highly experienced NHS consultants who ensure your safety and comfort. I will meet you again before the procedure to answer any last-minute questions.
The surgery itself usually takes between three and four hours. Afterwards, you’ll be observed for a few hours before going home or staying overnight, depending on your preference. The following day, I will remove your dressings and any drains if used, and you’ll receive a compression bandage and medication to support healing.
Most swelling begins to subside by the end of the first week. You’ll be able to eat, drink, and move around from the day of surgery and return to normal daily activities within 24 to 48 hours. Sutures are typically removed within two weeks, and almost all patients are back to work or social activities within 10 to 14 days.
Minor swelling may continue for a few weeks, but makeup can usually be applied after three weeks. By three months, most patients are fully healed, with scars fading naturally. You may notice some tingling sensations as the skin nerves recover, but this is temporary.
Psychological recovery happens quickly — most patients feel much more confident and energetic within a week or two after surgery.
Some people take time to decide whether to proceed with a deep plane facelift, while others act more quickly after doing their research. It’s important not to rush. A facelift is a lifestyle procedure, not an urgent one. Take time to understand the surgery, ask questions, and have as many consultations as you need to feel confident and comfortable before making your decision.
