Deep Plane Facelift Process and Recovery

If you are considering a deep plane facelift, you may want to understand the entire process from the first call to returning to your normal activities.

The process begins when you contact our practice manager. She will answer your initial questions and send you detailed information about facelift and cosmetic procedures. You can also complete a self-assessment questionnaire on our website to help determine whether the treatment is suitable for you.

Once you decide to book a consultation, you will meet with me. During this first appointment, we will discuss your concerns, assess your face, review your general medical history, and talk about your goals, both physical and emotional. I will explain what can realistically be achieved and how I can help you reach those goals.

After the consultation, you will receive further information to review at home. This allows time to reflect, revisit our discussion, and prepare any new questions. You will then return for a second consultation, which is free of charge. This follow-up focuses on specific details, before-and-after examples, and any outstanding concerns. We will also take photographs to plan your treatment precisely.

Once you decide to proceed, you will have a pre-operative anaesthetic assessment and a surgery date will be arranged. On the day of surgery, you will arrive in the morning, meet the anaesthetist, and prepare for the procedure. The operation usually lasts three to four hours. You may go home the same day or stay overnight if you prefer.

The following day, I will remove your dressing and any drainage tubes if used. You will then receive a compression bandage and medication to aid healing. The recovery process begins immediately. Most healing occurs within the first two weeks, during which stitches or clips are removed. Each week you will feel better and more confident.

By two weeks, most patients return to daily activities and can wear makeup to cover healing sites. Swelling is minimal and continues to reduce over the following weeks. In my experience, most patients return to work and social events within ten to fourteen days. Visible improvement begins within the first week and continues as swelling settles.

After three months, the healing process is nearly complete. The deeper scar tissue continues to remodel beneath the skin, but this is not visible. Most patients feel fully recovered and happy with their results, confident they made the right decision.
