We asked Mrinal Supriya how patients imagine others see them after rhinoplasty
Laura Livesey: Can you tell us, have there been stories that you’ve heard from patients or do patients tell you that they feel that others perceive them differently after they have a rhinoplasty?
Mrinal Supriya: There are patients who have had a lot of different positive experiences after rhinoplasty. I remember a young girl who was very reluctant to put her pictures up on social media or on dating platforms because the picture never came out right as her nose was not in sync with the rest of her face. Following the rhinoplasty, she gained that confidence. She was able to date more freely, and that had a very positive impact on her social and personal life.
The key thing here is getting the confidence back. Once you have the confidence back that your nose is no longer an alien, it is an integral part of the rest of your face. It gives you the confidence to go out and socialize, and that can have a positive impact on your quality of life.
There is another patient of mine who had their confidence come back after rhinoplasty, and that helped her progress in her professional life. I always say that you should not have a rhinoplasty in the hope that it will give you a completely different life. As long as you are comfortable with who you are, but feel that having the surgery will enhance and add to the quality of life, you will benefit from it.
