In this video, Dr Mrinal Supriya discusses how long results from a deep plane facelift and neck lift may last, and what “long-term” typically means in real life. He also compares deep plane techniques with skin-only and SMAS lifts, explaining why longevity and natural appearance can differ between approaches.
Transcript:
After a deep plane facelift, do the results last a long time? After you have had the treatment, will you have to have another treatment?
That is a very good question and it is a question that my patients ask me all the time. If you have a good quality, comprehensive deep plane face and neck lift done by a competent surgeon, the result should practically last forever. What it means is that if you imagine yourself years down the line after having a deep plane facelift versus yourself not having a deep plane facelift, you will always look more rejuvenated. It does not mean that your face and your body will not age with time, but the signs of ageing will never be as prominent if you have had a deep plane facelift.
It is important to understand that the idea of doing a deep plane facelift in most patients is that it should be a once in a lifetime event. You should not require another comprehensive deep plane facelift if you have had a good one.
Is that different from a skin lift or a SMAS lift?
That is one of the key differences, and that is why I practically never do a skin lift. If you get a skin lift, the results are not going to last for long, and in that situation, for the first period you are going to look artificially tight. You will not get a natural lift.
With a SMAS lift, it is intended to last for a few years in someone who is in their early or late thirties. The idea is to help them tide over that period without having a major surgery, but later down the line, after some time, they are going to require a deep plane facelift if they wish to have proper rejuvenation of the face.
