Mrinal Supriya discusses the daily life of a patient before rhinoplasty

Laura Livesey: What’s a patient’s daily life like before they have rhinoplasty surgery?

Mrinal Supriya: Well, there’s a big range. There is a group of patients whose self-awareness of their nose consumes daily life. Once their mind focuses on the fact that they have a nose that does not go with the rest of their face, it can very quickly take over their life. Their not confident, they’re always self-conscious, and this leads to avoidance of day-to-day activities, such as going out with friends, socialising and going to gatherings where they’re likely to meet acquaintances.

There can be a lot of range. The key thing is if you feel that your nose is not in sync with your face that we can address this with a good quality rhinoplasty…

If they’re a professional, it also means that they avoid situations, which are essential to progress their career. They won’t feel comfortable going for an interview. They think that they cannot compete with their colleague in terms of advancing their career. It leads to not just a loss in losing the pleasurable moment of the social life, but it can also hamper the development of their professional life.

Then there is the second group. At the other extreme, you have some people who’re not that bothered, or who feel comfortable with themselves, but they think that if their nose were a bit better shape and more in sync with the rest of their facial features, they would probably feel more comfortable and happier.

There can be a lot of range. The key thing is if you feel that your nose is not in sync with your face we can address this with a good quality rhinoplasty, and that will lead to your satisfaction and will help give you more confidence in yourself.
