In this video, Dr Mrinal Supriya explains what patients typically look like after a deep plane facelift. He discusses how facial definition, skin folds, and jawline contour may change, and why the aim of surgery is not to look younger, but to feel more aligned with one’s natural appearance and mental self-image.
Transcript:
After you have made the important decision to have a facelift, what do you end up with? What is it that a typical patient has after the treatment?
After you have a deep plane facelift, you still look like you, but you look much more energetic and healthier. For most patients, their body image is in sync with their mental image. What you should expect is that you lose the excess skin folds on your face and neck area, and the definition between your face and neck becomes much more well defined.
You develop a sharper jawline and lose the jowls. Overall, you end up with a face that is smoother and tighter but does not look artificial or unnaturally pulled. It still looks like you, the way you were a few years back. You still look like yourself, but a more energetic version.
You did not mention the word younger. Do patients feel younger or perceive themselves to look younger?
Most patients would not say they look younger. What they usually comment on is that they feel more in sync with their mental age rather than the ageing impact on their face. They look younger in the sense that their physical appearance is now aligned with how they feel mentally, rather than trying to turn the clock back many years.
That is not the aim of a good quality facelift. The aim is to give you a face that still looks like you, but appears healthier, smoother, and gives you more confidence because it is aligned with the image you have in your mind.
