We asked Mrinal Supriya to explain the rhinoplasty risks

Mrinal Supriya: Like any cosmetic surgery, the most significant risk is having unrealistic expectations or having the surgery done by someone who is not an expert in rhinoplasty. Most of the cosmetic surgeons who are experienced and ethical will tell you that rhinoplasty is one of the most complex cosmetic surgeries.

The main responsibility is getting the right surgery done by the right surgeon. Like any other surgery, there are risks such as bleeding and infection.

Like any cosmetic surgery, there is also the risk that if you have not had an open, honest discussion with your consultant or the surgeon about the expected outcome, you might feel disappointed.

Mrinal Supriya: The other thing to remember is that a small proportion of patients do end up requiring more surgery as a minor touch-up in future. Revision rhinoplasty is a reality that every patient has to keep in the back of their mind. It is a small minority who will require it.

The key thing here is to make sure that you don’t have unrealistic expectations. Do not come to a rhinoplastic surgeon expecting the Photoshop perfect nose, but go for a nose that is an improvement to your existing nose. If you come with this mindset, you will end up having a satisfactory outcome in the hands of an experienced, ethical surgeon.
