How does a nose job work?

These videos will answer some commonly asked questions about rhinoplasty

Should you go for a Rhinoplasty (nose job)?

A quality nose job can change the way you look and feel. Go for rhinoplasty if –

The shape of your nose makes you feel self-conscious

You feel your nose is too big or too small for your face. A little crooked to one side, maybe a bit bulbous at the tip or perhaps it protrudes up a bit too much or has a bump in the middle. Whatever be the reason, the shape of your nose irks you. We understand that you want to feel more confident about the way you look.

Time and age have changed the way your nose looks

Sadly, nothing can escape the signs of ageing, not even the shape of your nose. As time passes and you begin to age, your nose can transform. You don’t want the tip of your nose to look limp or hanging. Just like your youthful personality, you want to look younger on the outside too.

You’re unhappy with the results of your previous procedure

All you wanted from your rhinoplasty was a natural-looking nose, but the results didn’t turn out the way you had imagined. The changes were obvious to everyone who saw your nose, so you felt even more self-conscious than before and started to lose confidence. Now, you want your confidence back.

Feel comfortable in your own skin

Break free from self-consciousness

Your nose is big, bent and asymmetric

It doesn’t suit your face. It looks out of proportion and spoils pictures.

There is no universal “perfect” nose. But, every nose is “perfect” when it is in sync with the rest of the facial features. There is also little value in having a beautiful nose that you struggle to breathe through.

Everyone deserves a smooth and symmetrical nose, that fits their face and functions correctly.

Your internal dialogue is not your friend

The voice in your head is critical of your physical appearance, and this is having a colossal impact on your confidence and general mood. You’ve become withdrawn, introverted and have lost your true sense of self. Nobody is born with limitless self-confidence, but it is possible to feel comfortable and attractive in your own skin.

You feel silly

It feels as though it’s the first thing everyone notices when you walk in a room. Selfies are embarrassing, and your work photo makes you cringe.

This anxiety shouldn’t hold you back from valuable experiences; be it a job interview, a date or an appraisal at work. You should feel proud of how you look.

Friend’s wish you’d stop hiding your nose

Your friends know the real you, but everyone else perceives you as shy and reserved; you’re not getting involved and you’re deflecting any attention. You don’t want to be known as the awkward one; you want to feel beautiful without having to be told.

Rewrite your own script – it’s your life

You don’t have to accept the way your nose looks. When you anoint yourself as the most important judge of your activities, you take control of your own confidence. It’s time to make piece with your appearance and have the nose you were born to have.

Hear what our patients have to say

Our reputation rests on the experience of our patients

“Mr. Supriya operated on my daughter Mia earlier this year carrying out a septoplasty and surgery to both turbinates. I am a nurse myself and have worked for many years in the operating theatre and cosmetic industry so I am used to dealing with surgeons. Mr Supriya is an amazing person, not only a very competent surgeon but a very kind caring man who put himself out completely to help and accommodate Mia for her surgery. For the first time in 12 years Mia can breathe properly so to say we are grateful is an understatement.”
S.A., Septoplasty

“I was there for my medical examination. From setting up appointments, registration, consultation and check up process, all staff and Mrinal himself were exceptional. I would highly recommend the clinic and I am very happy with the results of my treatment.”

M. R., Deep Plane Facelift

“I have received only what I can describe as world class treatment from Mr Supriya. His care & professionalism has been a comfort for me from day one.”

A. C., Rhinoplasty

“Dr Supriya was very friendly, professional, and put me at ease straight away. He spent time talking to me about specifically what I wanted and gave me his honest advice. Consultations were always very positive, and I didn’t feel nervous for my surgery.”

K. T., Facelift
“The result from my surgery was fantastic – it was exactly what I wanted. I had an open septorhinoplasty, and as soon as I came out of surgery I could breathe much better than before. To my surprise, I didn’t experience any noticeable facial bruising or swelling at any point in my recovery.”
G. E., Septorhinoplasty

“The results were so natural-looking that no one at work could tell I had anything done! I am delighted with my experience overall, and would certainly recommend Dr Supriya to anyone interested in cosmetic surgery, particularly rhinoplasty.”

G. v.H., Rhinoplasty

“My experience has been amazing from the first consultation till the surgery and even after the surgery. The support and care given by Steve (Patient Coordinator) and my surgeon Dr Mrinal Supriya has been amazing and comforting. I am very pleased with the results so far and I couldn’t be happier.”

C. T., Septorhinoplasty

Supplementary information about Nose Jobs/Rhinoplasty

In these toggles, we’ve provided some general information about the procedure. For specific information about how we can help you, contact us for a consultation.

You may be an appropriate candidate for rhinoplasty for one of the following reasons:

  • You wish to improve the appearance of your nose
  • Trauma or infection has changed the shape of your nose
  • Breathing through your nose is obstructed
  • The effects of ageing have changed the shape of your nose; you may feel the tip of your nose is hanging and droopy
  • A congenital disability like cleft lip was corrected at a young age, you are now at least 17 years of age, and you would like the nasal deformity corrected.

Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a procedure to correct the defects of your nose.

There is no universal “perfect” nose. Every nose is “perfect” when it is in sync with the rest of the facial features. Hence, I believe in tailoring the surgery to your face. The surgery itself may differ from one person to the next for seemingly similar cosmetic problems with the nose.

I aim to give every patient a natural, symmetrical and pleasing appearance that is in proportion with their face.

Rhinoplasty is a delicate and complex procedure that requires dedicated training and exhaustive experience. Even when undertaken by the very best surgeons, 10% of patients require revision procedures to get the desired outcome for both patient and surgeon.

It is vital to remember that your nose has a crucial function: to breath. There is little value in having a beautiful nose that you struggle to breathe through. In addition to addressing the cosmetic aspect, I will also open your airway to restore the full capacity of airflow. This may involve surgery on your septum and or turbinates, which I will carry out at the same time.

Septoplasty

If the septum – the part of the nose that divides the inside of your nose into the right and left compartments – is bent, I will straighten it to improve the airway.

Turbinoplasty

Turbinate are typical structures running along the sidewall of your nose. If enlarged, they will need trimming down to restore airflow.

Grafts

Spreader grafts and batten grafts are cartilage grafts required to improve airflow if you have restrictions in the vital areas of your nose. If you need this treatment, I can discuss it with you during our consultation.

Rhinoplasty is a technically challenging procedure. Expertise and experience are required to obtain favourable cosmetic results.

The most common untoward effect of nose surgery is an unsatisfactory cosmetic (appearance) or functional (breathing) result. A secondary or touch up operation may be required to obtain the intended effect.

Secondary procedures may be minor; some may be performed under local anaesthesia or as an outpatient procedure. The need for a secondary procedure does not signify poor quality of the initial surgery. Even in the most experienced hands, secondary procedures are necessary for 5%-10% of cases.

Secondary or touch-up procedures are typically performed one year after the initial surgery.

Other complications are rare but can nclude:

Bleeding

Bleeding may occur after the surgery and last for up to 4 weeks. Most bleeding is self-contained, but if your nose is bleeding uncontrollably, then you need to contact my secretary during regular office hours or the local A&E out of hours.

Infection

The risk of infection is very low after rhinoplasty. If swelling, redness or pain increases or you have a fever after surgery, you should notify my secretary.

Hypertrophic scars

If I have performed a closed technique rhinoplasty, I will hide your scars inside your nose. If I have performed an open technique rhinoplasty, you will have a small scar that is usually hardly visible between the nostrils. Rarely this scar may not heal properly and leave a perceptible scar that requires revision.

Discolouration

After surgery, there may be bruising around the eyes and occasionally on the nose. This bruising usually subsides after 2-4 weeks. Very rarely the colour of the nose skin may become darker or redder, which may persist up to a year.

Loss of smell

Loss of smell rarely occurs after surgery and is almost always temporary, lasting between 6-12 months.

Numbness of the nose

A certain amount of numbness on the nose is expected after surgery and can involve your upper teeth. This is almost always temporary and usually subsides after 6-12 months.

Compare with other treatments

While the best way to find out the most appropriate procedure or procedures for you is to discuss your concerns with an experienced, qualified facial cosmetic surgeon, it may help to associate each facial procedure with a certain area of ageing:

Eyelid Lift Surgery

A eyelid lift improves the orbital area, around the eyes from the cheekbone to the brow bone. This distinct from a facelift, which mainly improves the mid to lower face, from the cheekbones to the chin and jawline. Learn more about eyelid lifts >>
